Why is my exterior so dirty?

The appearance of your siding and gutters is important to your curb appeal, cleaning them will extend the life span of the exterior of your property and the long term life cycle of your structures exterior. It is due to many factors, age, architectural design, product type, location, and mostly, how it has been cleaned and maintained. If you clean your exterior annually, you will not only be pleased with the aesthetics, but the life cycle of your exterior.

Most of the structure that we clean have never been cleaned professionally, many of the exteriors have not been maintained, so it is really challenging to reverse years of neglect in just a few hours, most of the time our clients are amazed at our results.

One note is that cleaning can reveal imperfections in the surfaces we clean, a dirty surface can hide a lot of existing damage, as an example, a clean car shows more scratches than a dirty car.

Why are my gutters so dirty?

Airborne ground dirt, algae, leaf debris breakdown, emissions, trees, you name it, and your gutters attract it. The black haze you see is typically due to atmospheric conditions that causes electrostatic bonding (EB) to the finish of your gutters. They can be the most stubborn surface we clean. This is due to many, many factors. The black stripes that you see are referred to as "tiger stripes". They are caused on the outer surface by electrostatic bonding. When natural moisture overflows rain or dew, it causes particles from the petroleum component in your shingles to stain the front part of the gutter. Tiger stripes are also susceptible to airborne emissions and dirt. Algae, mold, and mildew are also often times present.

Most importantly, neglecting your gutters surface can result in oxidation; oxidation is breakdown of your gutters protective finish, which can cause cleaning solutions or even light brushing to actually remove the paint that the original finish intended to protect.

How do you clean them?

The only way to thoroughly clean your gutters is with a combination of the right cleaning products and techniques. We obtain the best results by a method commonly known as scrubbing. We wish there was an easier way, but we actually hand scrub every inch of your gutters and downspouts. Anything less is referred to as a "splash-n-dash". They may look good for a few days but the only way to remove the "tiger-stripes" and the airborne particles is with both a brush and commercially specific cleaning products.

We do not blow you gutters out, we clean them by hand, inspect them for proper flow, inspect the downspouts for clogs, and rinse them out as part of our process and service. It is the only way to insure our clients that they being properly maintained and are functioning properly.

The purpose of gutters is divert and channel rain from your foundation, exterior, and landscaping, most of all, your foundation, many expensive foundation repairs are attributed to gutter problems and neglect.

How often should my gutters be cleaned?

We recommend a bi-annual maintenance program that will ensure not only your gutters appearance but their function throughout the year. The function of your gutters is to channel water away from the foundation and landscaping of the structure. Clogged gutters will cost you much more money if neglected. If your gutters are in a heavily wooded area, three times a year is sometimes necessary and recommended.

What determines the result of your cleaning and brightening process?

When a normal gutter scrub does not remove the EB, we offer brightening and restoration which is a timely process that involved hand cleaning and direct application of commercial grade cleaning products. The determining factor is the condition of the gutter, the age of the gutter, and if there has been any periodic cleaning performed. If oxidation has occurred, we will be able to clean your gutter; however the protective finish may not be totally restored due to the breakdown of the finish. It is really challenging to reverse years of neglect.

The option of gutter brightening and restoration is less than half the cost of paining them, and about 80% less than re-placing them, it is a good value and very time intensive work for our technicians.

What is your opinion on solid gutter covers?

We don't really like them! The only gutter protection that we can recommend is the Clean Sweep and GutterBrush. The purpose of gutter protection is the elimination of the debris in the gutter and downspout. We find that many of the issues caused by gutter protection can be achieved much more inexpensively with bi-annual maintenance. Solid gutter protection can actually increase electrostatic bonding by roof run-off. Another issue with solid gutter covers is ice dams and damaging ice cycle causation. In most cases we can hand clean your gutters for 7-10 years when compared to the costly, heavily advertised gutter protection products. The claim that gutter protection offers a maintenance free solution is just not true on most of the properties that we service. We like systems that are easily maintainable and accessible.

Why should I clean my siding?

Your siding needs to be cleaned, not only to be visually attractive but to prevent oxidation and premature deterioration of the finish. By protecting the finish you will increase the life of your siding but many years. Neglected siding can result in oxidation; oxidation is a breakdown of your sidings protective finish.

What is on my soffits?

Mostly what we see on soffits are from airborne emissions from fossil fuels, trees, plants, and roof run- off. Properties that in in areas where high airplane and traffic is present is very common. . While algae and mold may also be present, the only way to remove airborne emissions and dirt from the soffit areas is with a soft-wash brush approach, combined with a commercial grade cleaning surfactants with a specific that leaves not only the surface being cleaned but most importantly your original manufacturers protective finish. Hand washing a house is not easy work, we do not offer a “splash and dash” wet down, our cleaning products remove most common algae most of the time on contact, but the more stubborn areas require a hand brushing.

Will you offer a partial cleaning?

The reason is that our cleaning solutions can easily drip on the part of the structure that we did not clean, it creates what we call a clean mark on a dirty surface.
